Welcome to the Aspley State School Foundation!
We are committed to helping to make a better school environment for all the students
of Aspley State School. Your generous support will contribute to enhancing our students' educational experience today and in the future.
The Aspley State School Foundation is an initiative of some members of the Aspley State School P&C. It was established in June 2018 to create a reliable income stream to be used for the maintenance, improvement and construction of buildings at Aspley State School.
We intend to regularly approach Aspley State School parents and members of the wider community for tax deductible contributions to specific building projects (as recommended by the Principal and School Council). In this way, we hope to assist the school in providing the very best of learning environments for the students of Aspley State School.
PROJECT | SHADE SAILS OVER THE OVAL GRANDSTAND:
PLEASE SUPPORT THIS EXCITING PROJECT!!
TARGET AMOUNT $10,000 | RAISED SO FAR $5,115
Students regularly use the grandstand area adjacent to the Hall for sports days and other activities. The shade sails we will be getting are designed to block the sun’s harmful UV rays while allowing the students to enjoy the outdoors. With a shade sail, students can be outside without running the risk of developing skin diseases, which include skin cancer. Also, did you know that a shade sail can reduce the temperature of a covered area by about 10 degrees?!
The oval grandstand sail will be rectangular, secured to the hall and supported by posts rising from the grandstand steps.
PROJECT | SHADE SAILS OVER THE JUNIOR PLAYGROUND:
PLEASE GIVE TO THIS EXCITING PROJECT!!
TARGET AMOUNT $10,000 | RAISED SO FAR $4,180
Effective shade sails are an important and necessary feature to complement the new junior playground on Maundrell Terrace. This playground is currently not covered and has minimal shade (as seen in the photograph below).
Coming into the warmer months it is vital for our children’s sun protection that this playground be covered by shade structures. The proposed junior playground sails will be multi-faceted, cover the whole playground, and be configured to deflect the sun’s rays for an optimal period during the day. The sails in both this location and at the oval grandstand will be constructed in heritage green and heritage red colours.
Projects Completed in 2018
PROJECT | CARPETS FOR PREP CLASSROOMS
Thanks to the generosity of many parents, we have been able to have carpet tiles installed in the main activity areas of all 5 Prep classrooms. Originally carpet was going to be laid but the response was so good that we decided to buy the more versatile carpet tiles. Our P&C very kindly agreed to cover the cost of installation for one classroom, and the result is - as you see! The tiles are Godfrey Hirst Landscape extra heavy duty tiles in grey with a splash of coloured tiles for interest. The total cost to the Foundation was $7,286.40. The teachers and students are very pleased with the result - thank you to all who contributed!
PROJECT | BLINDS FOR YEAR 6 CLASSROOMS
From some of the money received from our appeal in June, we have been able to have a total of 11 block out roller blinds installed in two Year 6 classrooms - 6H & 6M. The blinds will replace the existing makeshift curtains and ensure that the harsh summer sun that comes through those windows - on the Maundrell Terrace side of the classrooms - is able to be variously blocked out or managed as required by the teachers. Thank you to everybody who supported this project!
