The Aspley State School Foundation is an initiative of some members of the Aspley State School P&C. It was established in June 2018 to create a reliable income stream to be used for the maintenance, improvement and construction of buildings at Aspley State School.
We intend to regularly approach Aspley State School parents and members of the wider community for tax deductible contributions to specific building projects (as recommended by the Principal and School Council). In this way, we hope to assist the school in providing the very best of learning environments for the students of Aspley State School.
We would like to upgrade existing bubblers to make it easier for the students to refill their drink bottles. We are looking at adding filtration units (given the relative age of some of the pipes) and possibly even refrigerating the water – for those hot summer months. Your gift to the Foundation will release the equivalent amount from the school’s budget and make this project happen.
The school toilets are functional but not a pleasant place to be. Given that all the children use these facilities at least once a day, we hope to add new partitions and doors and locks. We would like to paint some areas that need refreshing as well – your gift will make this a better, brighter area for the children.
As you know, the Principal is committed to rolling out classroom refurbishment every year. However the school has lost a lot of its regular hall hire income because of COVID-19 so this is an opportunity to us to ensure that the classroom refurbishment programme doesn’t lose any momentum, and the students can learn in pleasant, welcoming classrooms.
Thanks to the generosity of many parents, we have been able to have carpet tiles installed in the main activity areas of all 5 Prep classrooms. Originally carpet was going to be laid but the response was so good that we decided to buy the more versatile carpet tiles. Our P&C very kindly agreed to cover the cost of installation for one classroom, and the result is - as you see! The tiles are Godfrey Hirst Landscape extra heavy duty tiles in grey with a splash of coloured tiles for interest. The total cost to the Foundation was $7,286.40. The teachers and students are very pleased with the result - thank you to all who contributed!
From some of the money received from our appeal in June 2018, we have been able to have a total of 11 block out roller blinds installed in two Year 6 classrooms - 6H & 6M. The blinds will replace the existing makeshift curtains and ensure that the harsh summer sun that comes through those windows - on the Maundrell Terrace side of the classrooms - is able to be variously blocked out or managed as required by the teachers. Thank you to everybody who supported this project!
Because of the generosity of our donors, we were able to install a shade sail over the oval grandstand. Our community gifted nearly $10,000 to this important project - a fantastic result! Now we have an area which the students can regularly use while being protected from the harsh rays of the sun. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
All the monies gifted to the Foundation will be used for the projects you nominate. Once we receive the target amount for each project, we will endeavour to have that project completed in the shortest possible time.
